Community Pastor

My journey to serving at Renovation began far before I ever came on staff this past December 2016 as Community Pastor. The story to being a part of church planting began for me as I attended Journey Church in Raleigh,  North Carolina. The heart of this church was making Jesus famous in our community and supporting church plants. Little did I know what God had in store for me.

You see, when I moved to Hampstead in 2012, I had a goal of retiring from education and being a full-time “beach bum”. I retired after a great career in education in 2014, having been a teacher, assistant principal and principal in Wake County and ending my career in Pender County as the principal of Pender High School.

In the fall of 2014, my wife and I answered a call to be a part of a new church coming to Hampstead. This had been a long awaited answer to prayer in that we had longed to be involved in church plant like that which we experienced at Journey Church.

From the first launch team meetings in January 2015, I knew God was getting ready to do something significant in the Hampstead area. I had no idea, sitting among others who I would serve alongside in this journey, that God had great plans for my story to become interwoven with Renovation in such a significant way.

At the age of 59, God called me into full-time ministry and I joined the staff at Renovation Church as the Community Pastor in December, 2016.

I am married to my best friend and most ardent supporter, June, one of Pender County’s best teachers! I have three daughters, Katie and Emily, who both serve at Renovation. My youngest daughter Lara Beth, was married in November and moved to Louisville, KY with her husband, Aaron. “Pops” is the affectionate name given to me by three wonderful grandchildren, Ella Katherine and twin boys, Mason and Owen.

What a privilege to serve my Savior in this capacity! As Community Pastor, I’m excited to lead our Missional Community Groups and oversee our local and global partnerships. I look forward to seeing how God changes our community and the many communities we will continue to impact in the years ahead!
